Penelope Dransart’s research is grounded in the cross-cutting disciplines of anthropology, archaeology and world art. She is Honorary Reader at the University of Aberdeen and was previously Reader at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David. Since 1986, she has worked with pastoralists of llamas and alpacas in fieldwork conducted in Isluga, northern Chile. Her research focuses on the study of human relationships with other animals, particularly in regard to pastoralism, animal management and stock-keeping, and how protein fibres such as wool, camelid fibre, silk and fur have been used for thousands of years up to the present. She is author of Earth, Water, Fleece and Fabric (2002), co-author of Textiles from the Andes (2011), and co-editor of Animales humanos, humanos animales. Relaciones y transformaciones en mundos indígenas sudamericanos (2022). Research awards include a grant in 2017 from the Wenner-Gren Foundation (New York) and, in 2022, a Janet Arnold travel grant to study textiles of the Inca period in the Andes.

Challe is an independent researcher interested in late medieval and early modern English fashion. She has a MEd in Science Education with a focus on informal education and museum studies. Over 30 years of experience as a costumed living historian she has researched and recreated clothing from multiple eras, cultures, and social classes for herself, her family, and her friends. She is currently studying the depiction of Tudor women’s fashion preserved on church monuments, effigies and monumental brasses, and is an active member of the Medieval Dress and Textile Society, the Monumental Brass Society and the Church Monuments Society.
