Early Textiles Study Group Conference 2021

Legacy: textile studies, the past informing the present

The next ETSG conference will be held from 9-11 September 2021 on the theme of ‘Legacy: textile studies, the past informing the present’.

Call for papers

Early textiles can tell us much about cultural identity, society, religion and technology. The study of early textiles owes much to pioneers in the field. We welcome papers that explore any aspect of the legacies of the study of early textiles. Topics may include, but are not limited to:

  • Pioneers in the study and reconstruction of early textiles,
  • Collections, their histories and their futures,
  • Fresh insights gained by applying new methodologies to old collections and archives.

Please send your abstract (no longer than 250 words) together with your name and a brief biography to:

Cordelia Warr, cordelia.warr@manchester.ac.uk

The deadline for the receipt of proposals is 1st June 2021.

Venue

The ETSG plans to hold the conference in person at the University of Manchester.

In the event of this not being possible because of restrictions associated with the COVID pandemic, the conference will be held virtually.

A final decision on the format of the conference will be made at the end of June at which time the conference fee will be confirmed and participants (speakers and attendees) will be able to formally register.

We expect the in-person conference fee to be around £100 (£50 for students and un-waged).
